Step-by-Step: Clone Your Favourite Creator's Editing Style

A hands-on walkthrough of uploading a reference video and letting the AI mirror its exact rhythm, typography, and sound design.

This is the practical version: what to upload, what to expect back, and the three mistakes that produce disappointing first results. Allow about fifteen minutes for the first run and considerably less after that.

Step one — choose a reference worth cloning

The best reference is a video whose editing you could describe to another person in two sentences. If you cannot articulate what makes it distinctive, the extracted profile will be similarly vague.

Reference length matters less than reference consistency. Ninety seconds of tightly edited, characteristic footage produces a cleaner profile than ten minutes of a video whose style drifts. Pick a clip where the editor was clearly making deliberate choices throughout.

  • Use a clip in the same format you are producing — a horizontal reference maps poorly onto vertical output
  • Avoid references that lean heavily on assets you do not have, such as a custom motion-graphics package
  • Avoid heavily music-driven edits if your own footage is dialogue-led; the cut timing will not transfer sensibly

Step two — upload your raw footage

Raw means raw. Do not pre-trim, do not colour-grade, and do not add captions. Every one of those steps removes information the analysis uses, and pre-existing captions in particular confuse caption placement in the output.

Clean audio matters more than clean video. Emphasis detection, punch-zoom timing, and segment boundaries are all driven primarily by the audio track. Footage that looks mediocre but sounds good produces better edits than the reverse.

Step three — review the extracted profile before generating

The profile is shown as editable numbers, not as a black box: average cut length, zoom intensity, caption style, B-roll density. This is the moment to intervene. If the reference was more aggressive than you want to be, reduce zoom intensity here rather than regenerating later.

Most disappointing first results come from skipping this screen. The extraction is usually accurate; the problem is that people often admire a style more than they actually want to adopt it at full strength.

The three common mistakes

First, choosing a reference whose style depends on the reference creator's specific personality or delivery. Second, uploading footage with music already mixed in, which makes emphasis detection unreliable. Third, generating at maximum style intensity on the first attempt and concluding the tool is heavy-handed.
